EV Racing Today

Toray Industrys, A global leader in carbon fiber, showed off their Teewave AR1 electric roadster in Tokyo today in an attempt to get car manufacturers to use its carbon fiber in their road cars. The big advantage of carbon fiber is the reduced weight and this is shown in the AR1 as it only weighs 846kg compared to 1,235kg for the Tesla Roadster however the Tesla can go over twice the distance and 30mph faster. The main factors stopping the OEMs from using carbon fiber is the price and the difficulty to mass produce parts. Toray however have come up with an innovative mold method that reduces the time per part to just a few minutes per part.
